Need to adapt

KARACHI:

Pakistan lags in development and growth because it fails to adapt to technological advancements. It is high time that Pakistani educational institutes remodelled their curriculum and incorporated modern techniques and technologies into teaching. We need to start addressing questions related to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the future of skilled jobs.

In a recent interview, former US President Barack Obama claimed that AI’s ability to learn and adapt will reduce the need for humans in tasks requiring knowledge. This will exacerbate the winner-take-all economy. This predicament suggests that only those with specialised AI and other technical-related skills and expertise are poised to excel. A LinkedIn survey revealed that Generation Z is most interested in acquiring AI-related skills.

Even though skills such as emotional intelligence, critical thinking, and adaptability will remain highly valuable, there is an urgent need to introduce students to more dynamic technologies and equip them with relevant skills. Students should be encouraged to pursue degree programmes that have a better scope and will require humans. All degree programmes should include AI-related courses. We must keep pace with the ever-changing world.
